CPRT Over The Years

For over 70 Years CPRT and The Wilbur Marvin Foundation have worked to develop real estate projects that were sound business developments that also served the greater good of the communities that they were built in.

1951
Commercial Properties Development Corporation was founded in 1951 by Baton Rouge businessman, Wilbur Marvin. The company acquired, developed, and leased neighborhood and community shopping centers in Louisiana and Puerto Rico.
1970s
1992
After 40 successful years, The Wilbur Marvin Foundation, a supporting organization of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, was created and structured Commercial Properties Realty Trust as the foundation's real estate entity to generate funds for civic and charitable causes.
2000
The Arts Block
Adjacent to the Shaw Center for the Arts, The Arts Block is a residential, commercial and retail development completing the ten-year vision contributing to the revitalization of downtown. The Arts Block consists of restaurants, galleries, theatres, music venues, apartments, and museum space.
2005
IBM Data Center & 525 Lafayette
As a result of an innovative partnership between CPRT, the State of LA, and the City of Baton Rouge, IBM brought 800 new high-tech jobs to the capital city with the riverfront development of a new 100,00 sq. ft. Data Service Deliver Center.

ONYX Residences
The ONYX Residences completed the Baton Rouge Arts Block. Originally the home of Rider’s Jewelry Store, the building sat vacant for three decades. With 27 urban apartments, Onyx allows more people to live downtown, continuing the area’s revitalization.

The Water Campus
Developed just south of the city, and located at Baton Rouge’s Old City Dock, the 35-acre Water campus provides a shared location for up to 4,000 scientists, engineers and researchers scientists study the problems confronting our coasts.

1992
Hilton Capitol Center
Closed for more than two decades, the abandoned Heidelberg and Capitol House Hotel were an eye-sore to the area. $70 million later, the new Hilton Capitol Center brought elegance back to historic downtown Baton Rouge. In 2012, CPRT sold the Hilton Capitol Center.

Acadian Village
After an $18 million investment in 2013, the 70,000 square-feet Acadian Village shopping center attracted prestigious tenants including Acme Oyster House, Trader Joe’s, Pei Wei, Pier One, Petco, and Galatoire's Bistro Baton Rouge.

Villages of Americana
The Villages of Americana offer 60 luxury apartments in Zachary, LA. The complex includes over 17,000 square feet of ground level retail space with tenants that include, Lit Pizza, Blue Agave, The Baton Rouge General Medical Clinic, and Walk-ons Bar & Bistreaux.

5401 North is a master-planned development that set a new standard for urban design. 5401 North spans outward in a connected series of residential, retail and corporate spaces all existing in harmony with nature and the community.
